Tit for Tat

In theory, if you take the kids to the pool after school Friday afternoon you should be able to ask anything of them all weekend.

Which is pretty much what we did.

With a bull-buyer turning up early Saturday morning, in his truck, with a cheque book (our favourite kind), we had him loaded and out the gate with a belly full of oven-fresh scones and were at the yards sinking post holes straight after smoko.

We rounded out the day baling lucerne and fell into bed late with hay in the shed.
Some children may not have bathed.

Sunday saw us back at the yards, rolling old wire out of the old feed yards, removing posts and the dozer came home to clear some trees.

We assisted a neighbour re-insert a prolapsed uterus.
Into a cow ... just to be clear.

Two suckling pigs made it into the freezer.

Which can only mean one thing.

Christmas is on the way.

All eyes are now on the radar, a western system hopefully going to reach us by end of week.

Fingers are crossed.

  2. Sounds like a VERY productive weekend! I think the kids will be asking for a raise - TWO after school swimming sessions for that sort of work load.

And I think 66% of the state are looking at that western horizon!

  3. Why have I only just come across your blog? I've spent the past hour going through old entries of yours. I'm in love with the way you write and your lifestyle. My dream as a teenager was to live on a station, breed cattle, raise my family on the land. Now at 25, married and with one child I've accepted it's not going to happen but gosh I miss the days where it was damn close. I'm going to keep an eye on this blog!!

You sure had a busy weekend.

  11. This reminds me of Allan's stories of Saturday mornings during which his Dad made pancakes and then led them outside for "projects" that took the rest of the day!

  14. Nothing like a little uterine humour to get people talking!

I would just like to point out that we aren't in drought here, just enduring a dry spell typical of this time of year as we await the first storms of the season. By contrast our dear friends in the north and west of this state (like Sharon above) are in dire straits, having received no rain last year or this.

Please save your prayers for them, we will gladly fall in line and take our turn after.

Thanks as always for your lovely comments, it makes my day.
