'Twas an early start Monday morning, to have birthday gifts opened in the presence of all siblings, breakfast eaten and those big girls out the door by 6:30 to make it back to school.  We shared cake Sunday night,

a rather lacklustre affair, I just hadn't given cake a thought until about four o'clock when the troops declared cake must be on the menu while all were at home to share.

I do love how it doesn't matter whose birthday it is, it's open slather on sharing the joy.

Sal entered the world at about 2:30 in the morning, August 25, 2004.  We often joke it probably won't be the last time this one will have us awake at that time of day.

She is the most fiercely loyal of all our children.  Loves the hardest and doesn't hold a grudge for very long.   Her temperament frequently reminds me of the tale of "the little girl with the little curl in the middle of her forehead" ...

"... when she was good, she was very, very good;
                      but when she was bad .....  she was horrid".

Fortunately this ten year old is more times good than bad.  We love you baby girl.

  1. oh dear lord your ten year old sounds VERY much like MY ten year old (today!! came into this world bellowing and very indignant around 10am, and hasn't lowered her voice nor feisty attitude since). I've used that same expression about her often; Georgie lives life to extremes, there's no in between for her!

    Happy Birthday Sally. That cake looks SUPER awesome even though mum reckons she just slapped it together at the last minute. Hope you got some fantastic pressies in those parcels!

  2. Happy 10th Birthday Sal!!! Hope you have a wonderful year ahead being double digits. Eleanor has just turned 10 too, on the 17th (still no blog post though tsk tsk!) and at least you got sparklers on your cake Sal, unlike Eleanor who got them in her hand on the way out of the restaurant because they forgot to arrive with the ice cream Sundae :-)

  3. Happy Birthday Sal. Love that flash looking hat.

  4. Happy Birthday Sal! She is a beautiful girl your Sal! Ten is an amazing age I remember, everything was just great. Maybe my memories are a bit one sided? Sal sounds like my Annie, fiercely loyal, loves hard and with a sparkling temperament. Never boring to be with. I don't know what I would do without my ten year old (nearly 11)! The cake you made looks delicious, save me a slice please. Cx

  5. Happy birthday. She has the biggest and most lovely smile. I hope she enjoys every moment of being 10.

  6. Food colouring, marshmallows...what's not to love! She looks like she wouldn't be happier with a cake from Mr Zumba himself! Those early mornings sometimes are more work than the rest of the day put together!!! (I have an 11 year girl old just the same.)

  7. Wonderfull fotos familie,,greeting from Belgium
